Tinting, Tattoo or Henna
It’s getting harder and harder out there, as more and more becomes available to us to choose from in the Beauty industry, so here are a few pros and cons to help see what will fit your brows best!
Tinting has been around for as long as I can remember. Traditionally the tint is selected to suit your natural hair and skin tone for a nice, natural fuller look.
The procedure is quick and painless and will cost between $15-20. If done correctly it will last up to 4 weeks with some of my clients lasting 6-8 weeks depending on the lifestyle of the client. Tinting initially leaves dye on the skin which creates the block out brow look, some clients like this and others don’t. Unfortunately for the gals who love it, it will generally wash off the skin after one or two showers as the particular dye used is only made to get trapped in the hair cuticle and not the skin! Tinting the brows uses generally either natural brown (darkest brown) or light brown. Light brown still gets quite dark if left on too long, if you have blond or light brows the therapist should only leave the tint on for a max of 30 seconds. If you are darker, the light brown can be left on up to 2 mins to let the tint completely oxidise (activate). This will take it to its darkest point without looking too harsh.
The dark brown tint will obviously start darker so should be taken of between 30 seconds and one minute depending on the clients desired outcome. They will both last as long it’s just what will suit you. Tinting is fantastic for most people and it’s very rare to have any reaction as it’s a very safe procedure and only uses 10 vol or 3% peroxide so very mild.
Tattoo
People hear that word and freak especially as we are talking about the face but tattooing of the brows has come a long way since the big green eyeliner we have all seen!( so bad)
These days the qualified cosmetic tattooist will use again the tone of brown that will suit your skin tone and brow colour. find someone who does what is called feathering as this is a much more natural look as it is done like a hair strand (lines) rather than the block colour. It’s nice and soft and natural. Cosmetic tattoos are not for life which is another good point, they will last you up to 3 years if you follow your tattooist instruction as you will not only need one treatment. Generally there is a free touch up once healing is complete to check and fill any gaps that may not have held through the healing process. A medical grade numbing agent
is applied to the area prior to treatment so although you may feel a little scratch, there is no pain at all. The cost will vary slightly but you will be looking at no less than $400 for both brows including one touch up at a good place. This is better for those who have gaps in the brow or sparse brow hair as it will give the effect of fullness and it will last on the skin unlike the tint. good for swimmers as the tint fades so fast in chlorine and for those who like the fuller brow look!

Henna
So henna is the latest procedure on the market and is a nice, natural way to achieve a fuller brow. Henna will dye your hair as well as the skin so this is perfect for those who may not be able to afford the tattoo but have gaps to fill! The therapist will place a thick, paste like, brown product over the brow in your desired shape. It will be left on for 15-20 minutes and removed. This will as I said stain the skin and hair so don’t get a fright when you have a full bodied brow. Henna looks amazing but not for everyone, will cost between $50-70 depending on the salon but will last a good 4-6 weeks and with the block out brow being in fashion it’s the perfect look! Hope this helps you guys find the perfect match for your brow without having to pencil daily
