So many cleansers!!!

Cleansing dos and don’ts!
We all want that squeaky clean feeling when washing our face in or out of the shower!
A lot of people opt for the gel or foaming cleanser to get this sensation, not realising that you are actually stripping the skin of its natural oils or natural protective layer (acid mantle) leaving the skin open and susceptible to bacteria and infection, stripping the skin of its oil can also have an effect on your oil flow (sebaceous activity) as the skin will think, ‘oh no I’m feeling dry!’. In turn, the skin will start to produce more oil (sebum) to counteract that dryness.

Our skin is a pretty clever organ 😀
So the best thing to do if you have a normal, combination, dry or even mildly oily skin, is to choose a milk cleanser (not literally milk but it is the similar consistency). Most milk consistency cleansers are ph balanced which means it will keep your skin at the normal ph of 6-7 without stripping anything away but still cleaning your skin.
There are cream cleansers which are for the really dry or more mature skins which dont produce oil (sebum) enough on there own.
If you have super oily skin or acne, the gel cleansers may suit you. Please just check with your therapist or on the bottle that it is ph balanced and not going to be super soapy.
The same principle applies if you strip your skin too much, it will produce even more oil to try to replace what you are trying to remove and you will end up with more breakouts rather than less!
Thalgo have a nice milky foaming cleanser around $55 for those that just have to have something foaming but it’s just something you will have to adjust to. There are many good cleansers on the market with different ingredients, depending on your concerns e.g. dry skins will need more oily based cleanser and oily skins will need to look for more hydrating or aloe vera based milk cleansers. Anti-ageing concerns will need to look for the anti-ageing ingredients but all are available in a milk or cream consistency. My main message is keep that skin ph balanced, if you don’t this is where your problems will begin. Whether it’s fine lines and wrinkles from drying the skin out or breakouts from stripping the skin from its protection, you will wonder why and this is your solution
I’m happy if anyone would like a free skin analysis. I can recommend what you may need. I’ve worked with heaps of ranges and brands and can help out.
