How to maintain those heels

How to maintain your heels…
Our feet are so neglected these days, we maintain our nails to look nice but forget that these hard working things need some TLC too! I sit down every night after a shower and give my feet a rub - it takes 5 mins each foot and although I’m doing it, it feels amazing! As I’m on my feet all day and wear heels to work, they get very sore and swollen and need a big thanks at the end of the day! Not only does this feel nice and helps those sore feet but you are also maintaining your heels and preventing them from cracking!
When I go and get a pedicure and they scrub my heels, it feels amazing for that day. This is because the therapist (or you if you are doing your heels yourself at home) is removing all the dead dry skin to reveal the fresh new layer of skin underneath. The thing is the skin on your feet will then begin to harden and dry out. You need to protect the heel, as it’s continually being walked on, especially when your skin is fresh, so after a pedicure it is crucial to moisturise daily/nightly to maintain this skin or you will just end up with drier, more cracked heels and going for another pedicure will just make them worse! Honestly, by moisturising nightly you will find the rasp will have to come out a lot less often, I rasp my feet at the beginning of each season only!! They are usually pretty good and sometimes I won’t even need that!
We recently went from a wood floor to tiles at home. This has another big impact on the dryness and hardness of your feet! It’s best if you can, to always wear shoes around the house - even just a pair of thongs. This will help cushion and prevent drying; unfortunately I’m one who likes to take my shoes off as soon as I get home (but try to keep some thongs handy). the difference I’ve noticed going from floorboards to tiles is my feet have gotten harder and dry out a lot quicker so I find I’m slapping some moisturiser on my heels before work as well but as I said I’m trying a lot harder to wear my flip flops when I’m home.
Types of moisturiser
I’ve used some good heel creams but they can be very rich if they are made for established cracks, like GEHWOL
retails around $38, you really need to put socks on with these creams as it will go all over your floor and you might slip 😂 so I prefer a lighter moisturiser that will penetrate completely so I can still walk around.
I’ve reverted to the simple Vaseline intensive care aloe vera, for 750 ml its around $9 I think and I love it!!
